Another week where we look forward to some exciting match ups. This week certainly started off with excitement. After Game Day 5, Shiva Boys Hindu College were unbeaten in all 5 matches and topping the league table. However, Naparima College successfully won a protest against them for allegedly using a player that broke the registration time rules. Presentation College are now the table toppers, Shiva Boys Hindu College in 2nd place, Naparima College in 3rd and Fyzabad Secondary in 4th. The league is clearly being dominated by the South schools.
The only teams that are yet to register a win for the Premier League 2017 edition are playing against each other. They both are in 15th and 16th position respectfully. St Benedict’s College have managed to draw their last two games, while Signal Hill were not so lucky for their past encounters. This is a do or die game for both teams as they are fighting to come out the relegation zone.
Rocky Start, Smooth Drive!
Currently, the best team in North Trinidad (as per standings) Fatima College who sits in 5th place will take on 14th place Trinity College Moka. Both teams participated in 2-0 games last weekend, but Fatima College were the ones on the winning side, while Trinity College Moka were only able to remain goalless up until halftime against Shiva Boys. Will the Moka Lions regain their form from the earlier games?
Second Home Game, First Home Win?
The Saints can’t seem to catch their footing just yet, after pulling off a late winner last weekend in Tobago. They will be up against a very talented Carapichaima East Secondary. Unfortunately for Carapichaima, they’d be without two of their starters who were sent off in their last encounter against Presentation College. Let’s see how much depth the squad has to take on an unsteady St. Mary’s College.
Back on Track!
Trinity College East host Queen’s Royal College in a game that can put either team back on track. Trinity College East are coming off a win against Speyside High, while Queen’s Royal College have suffered back to back defeats. However, a win from either team will see them significantly move up on the league table.
St Anthony’s College players are well rested after having their match against Fyzabad Secondary postposed due to a waterlogged field. They will be without Derron John who has picked up an injury. Speyside will be trying for a win to further escape the relegation zone. St Anthony’s home record has been 50-50 thus far.
New Day, New Game!
St Augustine Secondary may still be disappointed after letting Naparima College pull an amazing comeback through a hattrick from Judah St Louis. After controlling the entire game, they did not stay focus till the final whistle was blown. Adrian Romain’s team will be up against 4th Place Fyzabad Secondary, who are well rested as they did not play last weekend. Target man, Sharkeel Lousion will be hoping to get his name on the scorecard.
San Juan North will have a big task ahead when they host Shiva Boys Hindu College this evening. The boys from South will be eager to reinstate their position on the league table. We spoke with a few San Juan North players earlier today:
League top scorer, Brandon Semper: “I believes the match will be challenging but I’ve been waiting for this match since I was unable to play against them last season. I hope my team will continue work hard and we’d be victorious later.” While centre back, Kyle Thomas said, “Do not count out San Juan North, we will put up a tough fight and are looking for the victory.” Captain Ronald Boyce remains confident in his team and do not plan to drop any points. Shiva Boys chose to not comment on the game after the Naparima College news came out.
